Safety Bulletins

Usage of Portable Batteries Not Exceeding 24V and 24Ah

Many batteries are being used with support equipment in the entertainment industry, including camera and lighting power as well as communication systems such as wireless microphones and walkie talkies. Battery components can be damaged due to incorrect charging. This guideline will assist in the safe charging of batteries.

Bonding of Electrical Equipment

Bonding is a connection of all non-current carrying metal parts of any equipment in or near the distribution system with a common (green) conductor. This provides a path for fault current back to the source to reduce the risk of shock. This bulletin provides guidance on bonding requirements and methods.

Breakouts vs Splays

This bulletin outlines the differences between “Breakouts” and “Splays” and provides direction on what is allowed under the Canadian Electrical Code for these items.

SOURCES UTILISING Cam-Lok™ (single pin locking) CONNECTORS AT GREATER THAN 150 VOLTS TO GROUND

Electrical distribution on Cam-Lok™ connectors at voltage(s) above 150 volts to ground may be present in sectors of the entertainment industry utilizing exhibition spaces, industrial buildings and/or portable equipment at studios and other locations.

There is a risk of severe injury to personnel, or equipment damage, by connecting to unidentified higher voltage Cam-Lok™ connectors.

Correct Mating of Cam-lok Connectors

Cam-lok connectors, utilized correctly, are intended to provide a robust electrical connection for portable power distribution. This bulletin provides guidance on mating them correctly.

Entertainment LED systems

This bulletin is intended to provide guidance to installers and users of LED systems and should assist in identifying and avoiding hazards.

Grounding of Power Sources

This bulletin provides guidance on grounding requirements and methods.

Grounding is the creation of a (low impedance) path to earth obtained by connection to grounding electrode(s), sufficiently sized to carry any potential fault current and to allow overcurrent devices to function correctly.

Protection of Cables From Traffic

This bulletin is prompted by an increasing number of incidents. Lack of due diligence and improper use of cable protection have contributed to numerous hazardous and life threatening situations. Proper planning and adhering to CE Code requirements can aid in avoiding such situations and mitigate personal liability.

Twofers (Y Cords) in the Entertainment Industry

This bulletin provides guidance on approved Twofers (Y Cords) in the Entertainment Industry.

Welding Cable Misuse

Welding cable must not be used for power distribution. This bulletin explains why and gives direction on identification of welding cable and permitted cable types.
